Ethereum transactions are final. There is no customer support, no chargebacks, no undo. That's why you should verify every address before sending ETH or tokens. Our free validation tool does this in seconds โ€” directly in your browser.

What Our Tool Checks

Format validation: Does the address start with 0x? Does it have exactly 42 characters? Does it contain only valid hexadecimal characters (0-9, a-f, A-F)?

EIP-55 Checksum: If the address has mixed upper/lowercase letters, our tool validates the checksum. If the checksum doesn't match, it's a strong indication of a typo or manipulated address.

ENS detection: If you enter a .eth name, the tool recognizes the ENS domain and provides guidance on safe usage.

Burn address detection: The zero address (0x000...000) is recognized and flagged as a burn address.

When to Verify an Address

Verify the address in these situations: you received it via chat, email, or QR code. You copied it from your transaction history (risk: address poisoning). You're unsure whether the EIP-55 checksum is correct. You want to confirm it's not a testnet address.

Address Poisoning โ€” The Underestimated Threat

Address poisoning is a relatively new scam: attackers send you tiny token amounts from an address that looks deceptively similar to yours โ€” same beginning, same ending. When you later copy from your transaction history, you may grab the scam address instead.

Protection: Always copy addresses from a trusted source (address book, ENS, QR code) and never from your transaction history. Always verify the complete address, not just the beginning and end.

EIP-55 Checksum Explained

The EIP-55 checksum works as follows: the Keccak-256 hash of the lowercase address is computed. For each character in the address, the corresponding hex value in the hash is checked. If it is 8 or higher, the letter is capitalized โ€” otherwise lowercase.

This sounds complex but happens automatically in every modern wallet. Our tool computes and shows you the correct EIP-55 version of every address โ€” with color highlighting of the checksum characters.
